Physicalist - Physicalist cassette
My musical taste is pretty vast and ever shifting, and I think that reality has somewhat hindered the success of Dirt Cult over the years. I release what I like and since what I like doesn’t necessarily always follow a particular formula or conform to a specific genre my decisions might be confusing to some folks. All that said, one thing will never not be true – I am a fucking sucker for scrappy, fast, and snotty punk rock; stuff that’s undeniably catchy (dare I say “poppy?”) but also takes a page out of “Pick Your King” era Poison Idea’s book. And within the first ten seconds of “Annihilation so Banal,” I knew that Physicalist was exactly that kind of band.
Physicalist started as a one-person project of Dave P (Night Court) who plays most of the instruments on this recording, but he since recruited drummer Taylor (CELL, Unfun – who also plays drums on two songs on the release) and bassist Emilor (Night Court), so the band seems to be morphing into more than just a “one man band,” which is great news for all of us. The world is shit and we need more bands that make us want to jump into the pit and pogo with our friends.
